DELWP is always trying to improve its fire management practices and the roll-out of more than 300 G-Wagon vehicles since 2016 is helping us protect local communities from bushfires.
Since to roll-out began we've been training our staff to effectively handle and utilise this equipment to get the best outcomes for our fire management programs.
G-Wagons have several important features specifically designed for DELWP's forest firefighting and planned burning needs, including:
A 630-litre water carrying capacity - which is much bigger than the 400-litre capacity of older vehicles,
A Falling Object Protection Structure (FOPS) above the cabin to help protect crews from falling trees and branches,
Modifications with the body of the vehicle ergonomically designed to accommodate people of all sizes,
Electronic rewind to the hose reels, and repositioned heavy items so they’re lower and more accessible, and
Adjustable trays so the G Wagons can also be used for other operational works outside of fire season.
