International Women’s Day is about recognising the achievements of women, and we want to celebrate the work and efforts of our people.

This Sunday is International Women’s Day, and the theme for this year is #EachforEqual.

We all have a role to play in creating a gender equal world, and at DELWP we are committed to providing equal opportunities and enabling more women to work in whichever role  they choose.

International Women’s Day is about recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and we want to take this opportunity to celebrate the work and efforts of our people.

Over the past year we have heard many inspiring stories of the women of DELWP who have made significant contributions and achievements in their fields of fire, research, land management, energy, compliance, policy, wildlife, diversity, planning, water and catchments, environment and everything in between.

The Victorian bushfire emergency has shone a light on the incredible work and resilience of our women in fire.

We have been sharing their first-hand accounts from the fire grounds, wildlife triage units, contact centres, incident control centres, offices and more.

At DELWP, we aim to build a workforce that is gender inclusive, safe and respectful, and that reflects the communities we serve.  Gender equity is about equity for all genders, recognising that gender is not binary.

Our Gender Equity Framework and action plan outlines the priority areas of focus to achieving gender equity for women and break down the barriers and stereotypes faced by men and non-binary colleagues. This contributes to building a great culture where our people can bring their whole selves to work and delivers for Victorians and our people.

There is still plenty of work to be done and we are committed to ensuring we stay at the forefront of supporting gender equity in the Victorian Public Sector.

Here is our framework for a diverse, inclusive and gender-equal workplace, guided by the Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2019-2022: https://www2.delwp.vic.gov.au/careers-and-volunteering/diversity-and-inclusion.

Check out some of the incredible stories of the women who work across our department and our milestones in the journey towards achieving gender equity.
