Join the conversation

  • Have your say now on our Engage Victoria platform: The Future of our Forests.
  • Workshops, forums and discussions with local communities across metropolitan and regional Victoria will begin early 2019.
  • You can also get involved by sharing with us your vision for the future management of Victoria's forests, either in your area or state-wide. Working in partnership with Traditional Owners, we will use your input about what you value to build a collective vision statement over the coming months. To contribute your vision or general thoughts on the future of our forests or find out about events and discussions happening in your area, please submit via the portal here.

The purpose of engaging Victorians is to gain an understanding of:

  • The values and priorities Victorians hold for our forests
  • How forest values will change over time and between different communities
  • The forest uses / industries of the future and the management systems needed to support multiple uses and values
  • The shape and focus of reforms to forest management plans and regulatory instruments.

Our forests provide a wide range of values and uses for all Victorians, and so we invite anyone who is interested in or impacted by the modernisation of Victoria’s RFAs and forest management system to have a say. The RFA Modernisation Program also provides an opportunity to explore the significant role Traditional Owners will play as partners in the modernisation process. Traditional Owners are invited to define their own role and how they’d like to shape the conversation and future management of Victoria’s forests.

Engagement has begun. A series of Roundtable discussions has been held to understand the interests and views of groups and individuals highly interested in and potentially impacted by the decisions which will be made. Click to see the reports of the Roundtable discussions. We intend to connect with a wide range of people around the State and involve them in the conversation during the course of 2019. Although the RFAs need to be finalised and in place by March 2020 at the latest, conversations will continue over the next few years as we implement forest management reform. Details of upcoming events are below.

Public Lecture 1: 20 November 2018

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP)  held the first in a series of public lectures where we heard from scientific experts leading the assessment of Victoria’s public forest values informing the modernisation of Victoria's Regional Forest Agreements (RFAs) and the forest management system they accredit.
